Year 9 Options Choices
Time for Y9 to choose their Options! At the moment you can choose between GCSE ICT (60% coursework, 40% exam) or BCS (67% timed practical test, 33% theory exam).
I would like to know what YOU think of these options. The GCSE ICT is old-fashioned, but as long as you work, there’s a very good chance you’ll get a good grade, because we have lots of resources. The BCS course is based around lots of short tasks plus some business theory.
But we know there’s more to ICT than this. You have seen the RollerCoaster software; you have used Blogs. You might have used Flash, GameMaker, Dreamweaver and a whole host of other programs. You might be interested in Games software, Animation, Digital Graphics or a number of other things.
I would like to read your comments and suggestions. What kind of GCSE or equivalent course would YOU like to do? There are pros and cons - if you do a “new” course, you might not get the same level of backup and support from your teachers - we’ll be learning too. But you might be able to study things that matter to you. Add your comments here - don’t forget to use your USERNAME please. And add your @lacon.org.uk email address. i am not taking ict because i don’t like it. i am going to take history, philosophy and ethics, dance and applied art.

Ict is not really my thing, plus ict goes in the same group as dance and i wanted to do dance more and bcs is in the same as german, and i am going to do german, maybe if german was not in the same group as bcs, i would have taken it.

I think that ict is a very uselfull gcse to have, but unfortunatley i am taking dance in section c, and because dance and ict are in the same catagorie i prefer dance. If ict was in a different box i may of consider of doing ict because i do think that i am good at ict and it is good to be able to use computers as i use one in day to day life, and if you understand the functions in a computer you can work with it and expand it further into other work, but as i want to do something todo with dance i decided to choose dance, sorry. _x

i think electronics and p.e are my two best subjects but they have fell in the same box. I want to take bcs next year. I want to do german and i would like to do applied art. I wouldn’t of minded doing i.i next year but i would rather do p.e.

i don’t really wont to do ICT because i’m not the best with computers.
But if it had stuff to do with globel warming and other things to do with the envirment i’ll think about taking it.

I am not taken ict because i do not need it to get in to Heartbury Agricultural college.Ict bores me because i do nit like computers.The subjects i am taken are French, voc, nvq, and dance.

I have not chosen I.C.T as one of my choices because it is in the same block as dance, and i would rather do dance than I.C.T. Also I.C.T isn’t really my thing.

I dont want to take it because i would take it but theres other things that i prefer. I like doing things like Resistant materials and actualy making things (not on the computer).

i have chosen not to do ict but to do bcs. i have also decided to do art, design technology resistant materials and geography because i think these lessons would be good for getting gcse’s in to help get the car designing job i want when im older.

I would like to do ICT, but I am not sure which course I am taking yet. I will probably take ICT, because I want to learn more about programs on computers and I enjoy ICT. Also it will be useful in my future.

I would have liked to take GCSE IT however it is in the same catogary as GCSE PE there for i think i need pe in the creer that i would like to follow in the future.

i have chosen to do ict. i think that it would help me later on it life and in my job that i want to do. i was annoyed that dance and ict were in the same block but i am probably going to do dance at as level at college. So it does not matter much what i do. My sister did ict and she enjoyed it alot so i thought it would be fun to!!!!!!

i am not gonna do i.c.t coz it sounds really hard and there is loadsssssssss of corsework what i cant be doing with lol and to be honest i dont like it that much anyway.. i would of done BCS but its hardly any business just i.c.t which i dont like so ummmmmmm that means im doing none of them.. im doing history, philosophy n ethics, p.e and expressive arts! ICT is usefull and can be fun! it is a shame that they have put it in the same option block with other good subjects. i might be be taking it, but i have interests in other things.

I think i might do italian cuz i am good at it and i want to do ressistant materials because i like making things, i am also going to do music because i play bass guitar and want to improve my skills in that area.

i do like i.t but it’s in the same column as dance, i like dance! i think i will do bcs though because i think it’s a good thing to have in my g.c.s.e’s. if i did do i.t i would like to study photography and graphics. oh btw is bcs business studies or more i.t? because if it’s more i.t i may not do it because i only want to do business studies.

I would like to do I.T because it can open up loads of posabilitys in later life, but i would like to do Art aswell. I don’t want to do BSC because i want to do Geography and History aswell, if i did I.T i would like to do Photography, Graphic design, games design and multimedia recording.

I like ICT but electronics is in the same box as it and i prefer it more. If they weren’t in the same option block i would do both of them. I am not sure if i want to do BCS yet because i recon i won’t like it as much. If i did ICT i would want to do either games software, animation or digital graphics but the options are rubbish.

i am not going to take i.c.t because i do not think that there is a career in i.c.t that suits me. The other reason is that i am going to take eletronics and i think that they are in the same colum and so, i can not take it.

im not taking ict because i now people who have done it and sed it was well ard and + it is in the same bloke as pe and doing ict wont help me in becoming a pe teacher My dad wants me 2 take bcs because 0f his buissness but it is in the same as philosphi n ethics so i cant do it i would really want to do both but you are not aloud

I don’t really want to take I.C.T or BCS because it seems quite hard work. I don’t think I will be able to cope with lots of corsework and both the courses seem to have a lot of corse work therefore I.C.T is not really the option for me.
