Year 9 Onscreen ICT Tests

Year 9 have done their ICT SATs tests this week. Well guys, what did you think of the whole experience?  Which bits were good - or not?!  Let us know so we can give some feedback to the government people who made the tests.

Mrs B - I think it should have said which bits it didn’t want you to save. So you know not to panic about it! Also it would be better if you could use the programs you are used to - like Word and Access, not have to learn new ones. What do you think?

  2. Steve Says:

I was thinking about asking some students to answer some/all of the following questions about the test, it would be great if you could give some thoughts to these:

How did the ICT test compare to your Maths, English and Science SATS?

What did you think of the actual tasks you had to complete?

What did you think of the toolkit/applications?

How did paper 2 compare with paper 1?

How did you prepare for the test? How would you prepare next year if you were to sit the test again?

What advice would you give to next years Year 9 students to help them prepare for the test?

What 3 things would you do to improve the test for next year?

If you could speak to the people who write the test what would you say to them?

    Thanks

  3. bcom Says:

the ict sats were just as hard as the other ones. some of the questions were hard but some were quite easy. I thort the toolkit aplication were rubish beause they the same as the ones that r userally on normal programs so it made it confusing. paper 2 was easyer than paper 1. there was not much 2 prepare for the test anyway. I would tell next years y9 pupils 2 whatch out cuz the buttons r different. the 3 things that i would change would be too make the programs more like normal programs, make some of the questions easyer 2 understand and make it easier 2 rite an email.

  4. BCRM Says:

I thought the online tests were hard!
Some of the tasks were similar in what you had to do but i felt that i ddnt get enough time 2 complete each task as they were sending you emails to move on to the next task. Some of the applications were annoyin 2 keep re-opening! I think paper 1 was easy and paper 2 slightly harder. But my computer would not save my test until a very long time so i had 2 wait 4 a while! If i had 2 take the test again i wud revise more by knowin wot most things r like how 2 get double line spacin 4 example! I would give next yr9s advice that u shud pay alot of attention in class also 2 know everythin includin basic stuff!! i would improve the test by givin us more time 2 complete each task, not have so many tasks but 2 make them slightly harder also i would make it that it wasnt so complicated by keep readin email and double checkin 2 c if u r on the right task. also keep readin the emails looses time!! If i cud speak 2 the person wh wrote the test i would say it was changellin but next year i think u shud make it easier as we did not have much time 2 prepare!! also i wud think about not givin the instructions via email

  5. BCSW Says:

I think that the ICT sats were different to english, maths and science mainly because they were done on a computer…
Personally, I find sitting exams online a lot more interesting and you dont get like an achey wrist which is good…
I didnt like the tasks because they were boring. The worst was the database questions because you had to do loads of the same things over and over again and just sort things. It would be easier just to say, sort the database instead of asking you to do it loads of times for some stupid thing to do with pepford.
The two papers were like exactly the same…
I didnt prepare for the test because its just computer stuff and theres no point revising for it because you can work things out on computers if you dont know them already.
I think that when you use the word processor application or whatever then you minimise it, you cant just minimise another one to see it again. You have to click loads of stuff just to skip between open windows and you just end up opening the wrong thing then having to close it which wastes time in the exam. I think that the programme used to sit the exam should be more like the screen you see on your computer at home like with windows or whatever because i find that a lot easier to navigate and that is what most people use anyway so theres no point in testing us on a style of computer that no one even uses.
I dont think the test was a very good idea because on the emails it treats you like your stupid and asking you about rollercoasters and stuff because they think that that is all that young people are interested in. And it would be a lot easier just to use the computer normally because then people would actuall know what they are doing instead of having to worry about where all the buttons are and how to use it.

  6. bwnb Says:

I didnt do the ICT exams but how we revised on the computer and the things we did to help us i thought was good and if i did do the exams i think that would have helped me alot.
I think i may have struggled though if i did the test because the things we did on the computer to help us revise i found hard.

  7. BWAB Says:

ict exam was beter than english, math and science because its on a computer and you dont have to mess about with sheets of paper. all the tasks were very easy to find and complete saying that i probally didn’t get any of it right. the webbrowers on the program wasn’t really that good for finding pictures of the exact stuff you wanted, the rest of the programs were easy to operate. paper 1 and paper 2 were the same they didn’t get harder as the test went on(i hope), i prepared for the test by going on microsoft help at home at learned how to use the programs.
    COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!

  8. bcmc Says:

I think the on screen tests were hard but not so hard that I couldn’t do anything, this was because the programs suchas the word prossesors and slide show programes were very differant to the ones we normally use. Because of this I didn’t finish the test and found it very hard to understand the things we had to do, many of the questions I didn’t understand. The tasks were very simple but in test condisions hard to understand. The hardest questions I thought were on the exel type of program. I found it hard to import pictures into spaces provided because the programes wouldn’t let me. I also found hard the way they set out the differant sentances.

  9. BCRW Says:

The ICT sats were v. different to English, Maths and Science bcoz obviously they were on the computr. It was more interesting thn a norml paper test, bcoz we were set challenges and tasks. The tasks I had to complete were challenging and I found one of them quite hrd. I thought the setup was good and colourful, it ws easy to use & 2 find ovr wrk that we needed to complete the task. I found paper 2 was easier thn paper 1. I didnt realy prepare 4 the test, I just used the computer @ home & wnt on progrms like excell. If I hd 2 do it agen i wud revise mre by going on prgrms n my computr & go ovr fings we’d dn in lessons like mail merge e.c.t. If I cud speak 2 the ppl who wrote the test I wud not hav much 2 say coz i found the test gd, but I found dat the email system on the screen was quite difficult 2 use & i got easily confused.

  10. BCES Says:

The ICT test was easier than my english maths and science as it seemed more layed back. The tasks were easier than i expected, they were easier than the practices. I seemed to complete paper 2 quicker than paper 1- maybe it was easier?! I did nothing to prepare for the test as there was nothing much to revise. I found the side panel a bit confusing as when i clicked on it nothing appeared straight away so by clicking again you’d cancel it. I don’t think you can do anything in preperation for the test except use the practice tests. The 50 minute sessions were a good idea as it didn’t seem to long or short- but still had enough time to try and finsh what you had started. If I had to sit it again next year i would do exactly the same as I did as i felt quite confident as to what i had to do.

  11. bwjp Says:

i think ict exam was harder than the other sats papers.the easiest part of the on screen tests was the pull down box questions.the tools were complicate to find and not were they would be if on the normal space.i think paper 1+2 were both as tricky as each other, personly i feel disapointed on paper 2, because i did not have time to forward it and send it out on e mail.

if i had to take the test agan i would learn were more of the tools are.to

i also think the goverment would not get more reliable results if computers were used for all of the sats tests.

  12. BMBW Says:

I think that the IT test was mainly easier than the english, maths and science, as they werent really testing your knowledge, more your skills. I thought most of the tasks in the exam were very easy, although i thought the spreadsheats were very hard and i didnt understand alot of them.
I thought the toolkit we had to use was good, because it was very clear and easy to use, and it gave good notification when a new task needed to be completed.
I think that paper 1 was a bit harder than paper 2, just beacuse i didnt understand some of the stuff on there. But i thought they were mostly about the same level.
I didnt prepare for the tests as i didnt really know what they were going to be on, and it would have taken ages to learn all the stuff we needed to know.
If i was to give advice to year 9s, on how to prepare for next years test, i would say to just revise over things that you are not sure about and make sure you can do them. Also, make the most of the practice tests you do in lessons and get to know the software you will be using.
If i was to improve the test for next year, i would make the tests cover a wider range of skills because on the tests you had to do somethings which were similar more than once. Also, i think that more programmes should be put on the software, so that pupils have to chose which is the best programme for that task.

  13. bwce Says:

i found da test 1 was very hard n i didnt get any of it. test 2 was alot easyer than test 1 and it wasnt as borin. overall i thought that da tests wer quit hard although in some areas i didnt find it 2 bad. i cant realli c the point in them cuz they just bored me. i think the next tests 4 next yrs yr9 shuld b mre fun 4 them so they arnt so bored. if i had 2 improve them i wuld:
    1. make um mre intersting 4 our age n fun.
    2. make the tests the same level n dificulty as each other.
my advice 2 the nxt yr 9s 2 propare is not 2 get worried about them.

  14. bclc Says:

I thought the ICT test was OK. There were a lot of tasks and i didn’t finish them all. The first test was harder than the second test. I think that was because i had to get used to the program we were working on. The program was difficult to understand because we are used to working on programs like microsoft word and powerpoint.
The tasks i completed were quite easy. There we a few things i didn’t understand but i knew most of it.
The ICT tests were different to normal English, maths and science because you could finish quicker. When you do the English paper and i would prefer to use a computer for the test because i can type quicker.
I didn’t revise much for the test and i think that maybe next year i will look at a few more things so that i understand, like formulas and goal seek. Next year i will revise more, set a set time for each task and check the work i have done on each task before saving it. If i had to give advice to the next year nines i would say revise things that your not sure on because they are bound to come up in the test. You might think its only an ICT exam but its just as important as the others.
Overall i think in the exam i did alright.

  15. BWLP Says:

The exams were what i expected. We did alot of preperation which i thought helped alot becuse she showed some things i didnt even no about, and i realised that i actually needed them. When it got to the exams i was worried but, after finishing the first task it seemed easier. The only problem with the tasks were that you had to open lots of windows and it got confusing as you had to keep going bck and check which you had done and which you hadn’t!
I liked the ICT exams better than the Maths,English and Science because for the ICT exams you only had 2-3 tasks which were all set out for you which ment completing, answer questions and send off.
For future year 9 I think the key to a easy exam is to relax, take your time and read the questions carefully!

  16. bccw Says:

I think that the exam was easier than the english maths and scince exams seeing as the test was to see how good ur skills on the computer were. The tasks in the exam were suitable because they toook up a good amount of time, but wernt too hard. The programs that we had to use were very good because it had wot u needed on them, and nothing was left out. I think that the second paper was easier than the first paper because there wernt as many tasks than in the second one, and you got to spend more time on each one. I didnt really prepare for the test, exept for doing the practice tests in the lessons, which helped alot, as i knew wot it was goin 2 be like. The advice i would give for the next years pupils would be to concentrate in the lessons on the practice papers because they really do help alot, and not to panic at the thought because they’re really not that hard. If i could improve three things i would make the test cover more things to show the pupils ability, because they be better at one thing than another. Also, i would use more programs so that pupils can chose which one they prefer and are more comfortable with.

  17. bwad Says:

I found test 1 was about the same as test 2 in difficulty but some of the quetions in both were quite hard. But overall i tink they were quite complex and some of the things u had 2 do were harder then others and the things u had to do were quite borin an cud hav bin mor fun in sum ways. For next year i tink 3 things that shud b improved r: 1. The test shud b made mor fun and colourful.
    2. The test shud be about the same dificulty and standard as each other as in mor consitancy wit the questions.
    3. They were alrite but overall they shud b funner for our age and aboout the same type of quetions.

  18. BCRT Says:

I think that the I.C.T exams were pretty hard. the first half was definately harder than the second. Some parts were ok but there weren’t any questions I was completely sure about. There were some confusing questions and I wasnt sure how to use some of the programs so it took up a lot of time to work that out. I think that the I.C.T sats were harder than the english maths and science sats because you couldnt revise for it very easily and also i dont think they gave you anough time to finish all of the tasks. i think i found it hard because i didnt do much revision so if i was to sit the exam again next year i would revise more. Also I wasnt sure about lots of the exel questions because i didnt fully understand how to use it. If i was giving advice to the year nines taking the exams next year, i would advise them to revise as much as they can and especially on the programs they are not too sure about how to use. To improve the test next year i would want to change the questions so they are clearer, i would either have less tasks or more time to do it in, and i would involve programmes that we use in lessons.

  19. bwck Says:

I think the ICT exam was a lot harder than the english, maths and science. Some of the questions were more difficult than others. The tools that u had 2 use were not that good and took quite a long time to find and figer out ow 2 use them. I thought that paper 1 was much more harder than paper 2.

On paper 1 the question were hard and i couldn’t find where all the tools were but when i did paper 2 i thought the questions were more easy and i could find all the tools that i needed to use to complete the task. To prepare for the test i went on the QCA testing program and if i was to sit it again i would still use the same program but maybe go on it more often.

for the next year 9 pupils who take the test i woul say don’t worry just note down things that you don’t understand and use the program in most of your ICT lessons.

if i could improve my score i would go on different computer programs and just play around with different tools they have.

If i was speaking to the people who made the exam i would say make some of the questions more clearly.

  20. BCNB Says:

I found the tasks in the test easy to do but i found i didn’t have enough time to finish all of them. It was less stressful than my math, english and science tests because we where in a carmer atmosphere and it was more pratical so we didn’t have to sit there writing about how to do it, but instead we actually did it which made it a lot easier and calmer. The actual tasks were straight foward and simple, and the layout of the test was basic but easy to find all the tools i needed to use. I my opinion paper 2 was easier than paper 1 because i then knew where everything was and i didn’t have to waste time looking for all the tools i needed which saved time and gave me more time to get on with the tasks set for me. Its very hard to prepare for a test hen you don’t know what it wil ask you to do, but we did some of the practise tests in our lessons and that really helped to familerise us with the layout and how to pace our selves through the tasks in the time we had. I advise next years year 9’s to do the same and practise at every chance you get in the lessons. If i could do it again i would pace myself more instead of rushing through tasks to finish them and spending more time on the longer tasks trying to get more marks. If i could improve the test i would make the time longer, put a time on each task and improve the internet search on it. Thats about all i’d do because other than that i found the test quite reasonable and fairly easy.

  21. BCGU Says:

I think that the ICT SATS were abit harder than the Maths, English & Science tests we did a few weeks before. I did find some of the other SATS difficult but I found the first ICT SAT harder than the second one. Some of the tasks were not explain very well. I found other tasks harder than others but overall I thought that the test very at a good standard for the whole year group. I think that even if you found ICT difficult that you would be able to answer some of the tasks. I found the toolkit quite hard to use because we don’t use then in our normal ICT lessons so we havn’t had much practice using them. I think it would be easier if we could use programs which we are used to. I agree with Mrs B. In lessons we did practice tests on the site so we could have a little look at the toolkit and try and get used to it. If i had to do the test next year I would like a website that I could go on so i could have a beter look at the toolkit and maybe have a go at this years test as a practice to see things that may come up on the test that I may not know how to do and then maube get an email back of someone telling me how I did. It would be very helpful to next years Year 9 if they could have a look at things at home which may help them get a beter mark on their real exam. Don’t panic if there is something you don’t understand. Stay calm and read the task through again. If you still don’t get it then ask a teacher to read it thorugh to you then you may understand a little beter. Read questions beter, concentrate and don’t panci is my best advice for what to do. I would ask them to make things more clear to understand in the test.

  22. BWRR Says:

i found the ict exam harder than the others. the tasks were clearly instructed, howevr saving ur work was pretty difficult. i found that it wouldnt save in the section that it was supposed 2 save in on 2 occasions. there wasnt much difference between task 1 and task 2. i would advise nxt years pupils (if they’re gonna do this test) to try and use the program as much as, just 2 get used 2 it. if i could change things about the test, i would change the layout of it because its quite hard 2 get used 2, and i would change the saving options 2 make it more clear and so that it would save evrything, not jst in certain folders.

  23. bwvg Says:

i think that the first paper was quite easy i agree about useing the programs that we are used to and not have to learn how to use theres.
i would perpare for the test better next time if they did practice ones aswell as the real test.
i thought that the test was easier than the english, maths, and science ones because you can just tell the computer what to do and it will do it.
the task that we had to complete got harder as we went through it i think some of them had to many parts to them to complete in 15 minutes.
the advice i would give to next years year 9s is to practice and set a mock challenge so you can see how fast you can do it in and so that you can do it in and to try and get your time down so that you can finish all of the tasks in the time given.
things i could do to improve would be quicker at answering the questions and try to read it so that i know what i have to save and not save so i don’t waste time on it.
if i could say anthing to the people that made the program i would say make the questions easier to understand and in lanaguage that we would understand and not so many parts to it.

  24. bwcmo Says:

I think that it was similar to the other papers because some questions were easy but some questions were hard.
I think that the tasks we had to complete were ok because they weren’t to easy but they wern’t to hard either.
The toolkit was alright but i thought that it was hard to find what i wanted to use.
I thought that paper 2 was easier than paper 1 and it took me less time to complete it in.
I prepared for the test by practicing things that i was not to sure about how to use.
The advice i would give the next year 9 pupils is to practice what you are not to sure about and if you dont understand something then ask a teacher for help.
The three things i would to to improve the test for next year is that make it easier for them to access the things they want, do not to to many hard questions and make sure that they can fit it all in the time.
I would say to the people who write the test to make the questions easier to understand.

  25. bcge Says:

i think the Ict sats were just as hard as some of the other exams. The tasks were ok but i didn’t no how to use the softwear that well. Paper 1 and paper 2 were not that different and none of them were harder than the other. We had a couple of practice’s to help use prepare for the exam. I would tell next year 9 to get more used to the softwear so they can get the task done in the right amount of time. I would improve the help box and make the e-mails easier to understand.

  26. BWTA Says:

I thought that the ICT exam was much easy than the english, maths and science exams. I thought some of the tasks were easier than some of the others we had to do. Something i didn’t find very useful was the webrowser as most of the time it would not find what you were looking for most of the time. I found paper 2 easy than paper 1. I prepared for the test at school as we practiced for the test in lessons and i have learned to use different programs at home.

  27. bwmp Says:

The ict exams I found easyer than the sats exams.

I found the actual tasks hard but the exam easy.

I think the toolbar and applications harder than a normal computer because u have to click on the side and click which one you have to use .

the advice that i will give the next years year 9’s is that it is hard cause u have to do 3 tasks in 50 mins so u have to be quick of wat u ave 2 do.

The 3 things that I would do is make t easyer for the yr 9s each yr, make a few of the tasks easy 2 hard nd get on 2 the other programs easyer.

I would tell them wat my 3 things r

  28. bwrg Says:

    I think that…

    1. The ICT exams were simular to the other exams because some questions were hard and others were simple, plus the things you already knew made it easier!!

    2. The tasks we had to do were pretty difficult but some simple stuff.

    3. The toolkit/applications i thought were pretty poor, because it didn’t have everything you wanted and it was pretty hard to find what you needed!

    4. Paper 2 was slightly easier than paper 1 because it took me less time to complete the tasks!

    5. I prepared for the test by using my computer at home, and practiced doing all the things I wasn’t sure of, and taught my mom a few new things aswell!

    6. I would tell them to write all the things they aren’t sure of and then practice them at home or when they get the chance to access a computer!

    7. The 3 things I would change for the test next year are…
    i. Easier emails to tell you what you need and where to find them.
ii. Better presentation, so all the icons you need to spell check and use bold ect. should be on the top of your screen for easy access!
iii. More time for you to actually finish, or use as much time as you want, if you finish it in 50mins you can leave the room and if the last one finishes in 80 mins it would be fair because people are brighter than others!

    8. You could of made the test a little bit easier and gave us more time to complete all the tasks!

  29. bmmj Says:

i think the test were easy. and wer alot easier than the other 1s, if i got to

improve the test i would make it shorter because i finished wit 15 mins to

go on both tests.i would tell the people not to make any more test because

they are pointless if you arent taking ict in year 10.

  30. bsks Says:

I think that the I.CT examination was quite easy compared to the rest of the exams like english, maths and science. But the database questions were very hard because of all the formulie questions which i didn’t understand. I thought the first half we did was harder than the second half, which i found no prblem with doing. The tasks were not that hard but using the tools were.

  31. BSRBU Says:

I cant reali compare the ict xams 2 the rest bcause they were so difrent!

The tasks where u had 2 use databases + spreadsheets were SOLID! the rest weren’t as bad

The toolkit/applications were reali good- they were easy 2 undastand + i got used 2 them reali quickly- i was impressed they were so good.

I think paper 2 was easier than paper 1, only bcause we were a bit more used 2 by that stage.

I would say 2 the next yr 9’s ot 2 panic bcause t wastes time + just 2 take each task as it comes.

There isn’t much u would say to the people that created the test only that i think it mite b a good idea 2 give pupils something similiar 4 other tests b4 the actual SAT, they r betta then the other 1’s we do!! xxx

  32. bsjw Says:

i think the ict sats were just as hard as the otha sats if not harder. I thought the tasks we had to complete were changabul sum wer hard sum wer a lot easier. I think the programs we gt 2 use were hard to get used 2 and i think we shud use programs like excel word and acces. I prepared by using the familisaration program this helpd me get used to wat the tasks might be like. I would advise next yrs yr 9 to use the familisaration program wel and take it all in. I wud only hav 1 paper i wud do it in the same week as the other tests and they cud tel u wen u need to save. I think the time limet was gud it was not to long and not to short.

  33. bmaf Says:

I thought that the ict sats were about the same as thye others. the tasks were ok but some i didnt really understand because they were worded in a wierd way. i thought using that application was really stupid because we arnt eva guna use that in the future, and its not what weve been taught on, i also hated the way you couldnt really minamise stuff and it was a bit confusing with those action buttons on the powerpoint. did it take anyone else ages to figur those things out?
i think paper 2 waas eaiser because i had less tasks and they were easier to do. i hope mrs b isnt reading this because i didnt prepare for the sats i didnt know how to and because they werent really important i concenrated on other things. (like the tv!!) i dont think could advise anything for the next year nines, just try your best and learn how to do goal seek!!
umm i dont know what 3 things i would do, prob, change the program you do it on, have the sats with the others because it was to spaced out and the amount of tasks you had to do because i no loadsa peeps that didnt finish. if i could speak to the people i would say that i dont think its necessary to do these exams and dont do them next year.
for all those peeps that have read all this u av 2 much free time get a hobby!!!

  34. bsfp Says:

I was quite plzed with the ict SAT exam. I think it was easy compared to the rest of the SATS. I think that the second test was easier, as I quite enjoyed completing the healthy eating leaflet for young children. I think that all the preperation we did in class really helped me, by doing practise tests it really helped because I got to know how to use the programme. The advice I would would give to the next year 9 pupils is just to do plenty of practise tests in class, to relax and to read the questions carefully and most importantly—DON’T PANIC!!!!!!!, it really does help. Things I would do to improve the tests are just make the email instructions a bit clearer, because on the first set of tasks I wasnt entirley sure on what to do. I f I could speak to the people that write the tests I would just say that, I found the tasks ok but for some people who may struggle with ICT probally would have found it very hard, I dont really think they balanced the test out very well for all the different levels that different people are at.

  35. bstl Says:

i prepared for the exams on da practise 1s wich 1 medium deficulty. i cnt say hw 2 improve the exam coz i missed it coz i went 2 meorca 4 2 weeks

  36. bsap Says:

i think the ICT test was very diffrent to then english, maths and science because i am more used to then and the way they work.
however i got used to the IT exam quite quickly as we had practices in lessons before the sats.
some of the tasks involved were easy and gave you more infomation about what you had to do but some were more difficult and you had to think alot more.
i found the tool kit quite easy to use.
i think paper 2 was alot harder to paper 1 because i complete less of it and didnt understandas much allthough it wasnt impossible to do.
i didnt do any preparing for this sat except for the practice lessons we did in class. i dont think i would do any preparing next year either because there isnt anythink else you can really do except the practice lessons.
the advice i would give to next years year 9 would be to just try and understand the programm when they do the lessons as much as they can.
to improve next years test i wouldnt do anything.
i would say to the people who wrote the teest that they did a good job but maybe make some tasks a bit easier !

i think that there wasnt enough time to do all the tasks but it wasnt that hard overall, the maths science and english were a lot harder than the ict test. i thought that paper 1 was a lot easier than paper 2. i didnt do any preparation exept what we did in ict lessons by doing practice tests on the computer. the advice i would give to other yr9s is to keep calm as it isnt hard ande isnt important.

I found the IT exam quiet easy but i think that it could have been made more easy to work by having a different setup that is more easy to work and not so cramped on the screen. I also think that the tasks could have been imporved by making more coulorfull and interesting things to do not just questions!
I tihnk that other than that, the test was very good because it is easy to preparee yourself onb the online feature and it is much more fun doing a test in an interactive way. I think that the test could have perhaps had less questions but make the questions harder. #

I think the test was gd becuz it waz on the comp. and not at a desk with paper. it hnk the tasks were quite gd but mayb bcuz have gave a bit more time as some tsks were quite long but didnt hav much time 4 them.I think the aplications were ok but i wud rather use word etc. the programs we are used to. as we kno where everythin is and we hav used those programs many times and i am think i am very gd at them because i know where everythin is and can click faster. i think paper 2 was harder as u had 2 big tasks and i dont think u had enough time 4 them. I think if i had to improve the test for another year i think i wud change the prgrms used to ones tht they hav used b4 and are used to. like word and excel wud change the time system to another way like wen u have finished 1 task it wud send u the nxt one or wen ur time was nearly up 4 tht tsk send u a reminder not the nxt task straight away. I think if i talked to the pple who made the tst i wud hav recommended the things i hav sed

I think ICT exams were just as hard as the other english, maths and science sats exams. The instuctions were clearly set out but it was hard to save anything. There was’nt much difference between the two tasks. I would advise any who is going to take the test to go on it as much as you can so you can get used to it as much as you can.The things that should change are the tollbars setting they are really confusing also the the way you have to change from program to program. If i was to do this test gain i would get used to the program more. Also i would improve the way you have to save things. The practice test really help me and made me prepared.

  41. bmmj Says:

oh yes i also thought some of the questions wer abit iffy.some wer to easy and some didnt make sense.

  42. BSRB Says:

I think it would be a lot easier if the exam used the same applications, eg. Word or processor, as you are used to using in school instead of having to learn how to use the applications used in the exam.
3 things i would do to improve the test would be to use the same applications as you use in school, make the tool kit more accessible and make the emails easier to understand.

  43. bmjd Says:

I found that the ict test was ok because you didn’t have to write anything.
One think was i didn’have enough time to complete all of the tasks and i got frustrated with it when i didn’t understand what i needed to do. i thought it was good when you had a short task and a longet task every now and again.some of the tasks were easy but some you realy had to think about what you were doing, also it was a good thing that you had all of the icons up the side but if you did not exit the program you were on it would come up with a long list when you wanted to use the program again.
I found the paper 2 easier than the paper 1 this could be because i had got over having a test but i think it was because it was less tasks and you had time to spend on the different tasks even though they were longer tasks. the only thing that i prepared for the test was my brain??
another thing about the test is that you had to keep going bact to the research to memerise the thing that you were looking for.
the advise that i would give to next years year 9 would be not to worry and to do your best.
it was a good thing that we did all of the work in the lessons before that tast because it gave us a chance to use the softwear and were all of the different places were, also you had the chance to ask the teacher what to do if you were unsure.
the thing that i would improve for the test next year would be to have more time and to do the tasks and change the search for google because it did not let you search many things.

  44. bmcw Says:

i think that the ict tests were easyer than the other sats tests, i thought the program was easy to use. i think the first test was harder than the second test. i didnt do anything to prepare for the tests appart from the practise we did in ict lessons if i dont know how i would prepare for a test next year. for the next years year 9 i would say dont panic do your best and revise a bit. to improve the test i would make the test easyer to load up if i talked to people who i would tell them about my 3 things and tell them to make some of the questions more easyer to understand!

  45. bstl Says:

i tink u shud make a task tym abit longer n make da questions mor interstin

  46. bsfa Says:

Well ard!!!!!!!!!!! to improve them they need to be more reliable becuz mine kept freezing and my practise ones kept shutting down: ANNOYING!!! They were harder than english and the others becuz the tasks wer long and seemed pointless, also the toolkit applications were not very useful @ all. Paper 2 seemed harder becuz the tasks were longer and u had to think harder and faster. The only preperation i did was the practise ones becuz i wern’t sure how 2. 2 help the next year to prepare i wud tell them toi do as many practise ones as possible; 3 at least. three things i wud improve are: reliability, on screen navigation and easyer to start up. Well dun becuz afer i felt i ad workd ard nd streched my brains capacity WOW!!!!!!!
    (that ent much)!!!

  47. bmem Says:

i think the test were ok, they were hard but you just have to slow down not panic and just take your time making sure you complete al the tasks and try every question. the test was very different from the english maths and science tests but i did find it ok. i think the tool kit applicationswas ok it was very different and hard to work because it is al very different to the normal tool kit applications but i did get there in the end. i think paper two was so much eaiser to paper one because even though there was more to concentrate on doing only to taskes which were longer were eaiser. i prepare by going on all the different window and access and see if i could remember and in school you can have a go on the practise test which i found really helped me to revise. i would get the next year nines to have as much practise as you can on the practise tests. three things i would improve are make the tests a bit longer on the paper one apart from that i found the test good.

  48. bsrd Says:

I thought that the ICT exams were alot easier than the maths, science and english exams. The tasks were quite easy but , ifelt, there wasnt enough time to complete them all. The applications were quite easy to use once youve got the hang of it. They were easy to use and the instructions were clear and precise. I thought paper 2 was easier than paper 1 because, even though there were fewer tasks the time was a lot longer for the different tasks.I prepared for the test in different ways. In class we did lots of practice papers to get used to the sftware and I always read the task properly and made sure I knew what I was doing . The advice I would give to next year9 would be to check and save your work before the time has ended. The 3 things I would change about th test for next year would be to extend the time to an hour not 50 mins ,make the toolbar easier to use and add more colorful things to the programme. If I could say something to the people who write the test I would say make the display easier to use and have more time on the tests.

  49. bmlh Says:

I thought the ICT SATs were about the same difficulty to the English, Maths and Science SATs. Some of the tasks I had to complete were easier than others and some took up more time than others. I thought the application wasn’t as easy for me to use then Microsoft because not everything is in the same place and I am used to using Microsoft. I thought that both papers had the same difficulty. To prepare for the test I did the practise tests and looked at the application in class and did some revision on microsoft at home. If I had to do it again next year I would spend some more time prastising on the actual application. My advice would be to make use of the lessons you are given to practise the application in. To improve the application next year I wound put everything in the same place as Microsoft because as it is now it wastes your time trying to find things even if you know want you are looking for.

I found the sats exams easier than the ICT. I dont think that they gave us enough time to do each the tasks, and they were more difficult questions than the sats aswell. The tasks were hard to complete because we were rushed for time and different e-mails kept on popping up. I found the tool kit hard to use because you had to memorize where your file was, whereas on our normal screen it is much easier to use. Paper 2 was harder than paper 1 because you had more things to do in each task. We prepared ,in ICT, by familiarating ourselves with the program. We did a few practise tests before aswell. I would tell next year 9’s to go over the things we have learned in ICT. I would improve the test next year by having more time, making the tasks easier and make the tool kit easier.

  51. bsat Says:

i think that the ict exam was alot harder than my english, maths & scince exams. they were very boring and very hard i didn’t enjoy them at all, i dnt like the fact we did it on computer because im not very clever with computers. The applications were alot harder than using a normal computer because you always had to exit off the yhing u was on before you opened something else, so then u forget what the last bit said. Paper 1 was alot harder than paper 2, on paper 1 you had alot more harder activities, you had to open up loads of different things, i found paper 2 easier because i only had a few questions and you dont have to open up loads of different folders. we prepared for the test by using the exam program. if i was to sit the test again i would use the computer to prepair. I would tell other year nines to revise alot. i would change the amount of tasks we had if we had to change the test.i would tell people who write the test to make it alot easier.

  52. bskt Says:

I think that compared with the English, Maths and Science sats that the ICT sat was hard. I thought that the actual tasks they asked us to do was really pointless because we would probly never need to go around correcting faulty slide shows anyway, but they were generally straight forward. The toolkit was difficult and we shouldn’t need to be tested on our knowlege of something we will never use again as it isn’t a regular computer programme. I found paper 2 a lot easier than paper 1 because i just understood it better and there wasn’t as much to fit into the 50 minuts.
The only preperation i had for the test was in class when we were practicing but i never revised apart from that. I would advise other yr9 pupils to just do the test because there is not much that you can do to elp unless you have it at home because not many people are going to want to sit at school do practice tests. I would just say to improve itthat the test should be shorter and on programmes that we’re used to.

i tink u cud make da screen mor clear and understanable so we know wat 2 open n wich 1 2 use in watv task. i also tink it helps the teacher gt a clue hw u r gtin on and improvin and wat u need 2 practise
